Bequests

Bequests are gifts made as part of a will or trust and are one of the most popular and flexible ways to support the causes that are important to you and your family after your passing. A bequest can be to a person or a trust, or it can be a charitable bequest to a non-profit organization such as House of Chances Rescue.

House of Chances Rescue gratefully accepts donation bequests. You may also leave your pets to House of Chances by bequest, linked to a donation for their care and rehoming, to give you peace of mind that your beloved pets will be cared for and placed in appropriate and loving homes for the rest of their days.

Donation Only Bequests

To leave a bequest, you simply need to include wording in your will to that effect. Donation bequests can be financial or asset based. The following paragraph is suggested to include in your will.  The wording should be adapted for your particular circumstances. For example, you may wish to leave a lump sum, a percentage of your assets, or a particular asset such as shares or real estate. Please seek legal advice before using this wording to ensure it is appropriate to your situation.

“I leave [$amount and/or asset description] to House of Chances Rescue ABN 86 483 967 392 for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the secretary, treasurer, or other proper officer of that organization is a sufficient receipt for my Trustee and that my Trustee is not obliged to see to the application of this bequest.”

Entrusting Your Pets To Us

If you would like to leave your pets in the care of House of Chances upon your passing, the following paragraph is suggested to include in your will. This must follow a donation bequest as outlined in the section above. The donation required is a minimum of $1000 per pet to cover the cost of their care and rehoming. Once again, please seek legal advice before using this wording to ensure it is appropriate to your situation.

“As a condition of my donation/bequest, I request that House of Chances Rescue ABN 86 483 967 392 are entrusted with the care of my pets as follows: [names, species, description and microchip numbers]. House of Chances Rescue will be responsible for their welfare and ongoing management. They will be kept in an appropriate temporary environment until they are placed in an appropriate permanent home. House of Chances Rescue must not surrender or euthanise my pets unless a qualified vet has deemed a condition as terminal or a cause of prolonged suffering.”

Please note we can only accept bequests entrusting pets to us that are owned by you, with microchip details in your name. We cannot accept bequests to care for or rehome stray animals or pets belonging to anyone other than yourself.
